Being next to the Government Gardens is awesome especially as the tulips were all in flower - and we would recommend taking a walk through town in the evening to catch all the lights - it felt like Christmas. Auckland, New Zealand 6 contributions. Warm and welcoming. Hotel was warm and welcoming, dinner options were very impressive and the buffet breakfast was well worth it with lots of options.

Rooms are very warm, clean and comfortable and a good size. I would stay here again. Date of stay: August Value. Dear loriank, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your feedback on your recent stay here. StheG wrote a review Sep Tairua, New Zealand contributions 67 helpful votes.

Old charmer. The hotel is in a great location, right by the gardens and an easy walk to Sulphur Point on the lake and to restaurants and cafes in town. It has its own thermal pools three small outdoor pools and a private small indoor pool , which are available free of charge to guests. It would have been nice if pool towels were provided we had to use our bathroom towels.

There's also a free sauna in the pool area, but we didn't try it. There's some private parking at the rear of the hotel if you arrive early enough. Our room was on the ground floor, facing an internal verandah. It had a king size bed two singles pushed together and a small separate bathroom with an adequate shower and nice Forest and Bird amenities shampoo, body wash and moisturiser. There are tea and coffee-making facilities in the room, and a small fridge, which is always nice.

There's also a mini-bar, but we didn't try anything. Being an old building, and on the ground floor, there was a bit of creaking as people moved about at night and returned to their rooms, but other than that it was a quiet night. Check-in staff were pleasant and we had a comfortable stay. Didn't get told anything about wifi, so didn't try it. Date of stay: September Location. Dear StheG, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave feedback on your recent stay with us.

It's extremely pleasing to read that overall you really enjoyed your time here. With regard to a couple of your comments, just to clarify - we do have plenty of pool towels available to guests and they are located in the pool changing room area though under Level 2 we did have them at reception via request. It's also very true that the hotel does have a few creaks and groans that other newer buildings don't have but this all adds to the charm of the property as-well. While these are very minimal and don't affect most guests, we do wish to assure that we have many rooms whether on higher floors in out main hotel building or in our adjacent Suites that do not have any noise issues so as to cater to those guests who may be light sleepers.

We always appreciate these sorts of comments and overall feedback though and do hope that we get to have you stay on another occasion. Don't hesitate to contact us directly whenever you are back in Rotorua and we will definitely look after you again!! Logan Y wrote a review Sep Auckland, New Zealand 8 contributions 3 helpful votes. Bait and switch on vouchers. A few tips if you're going to stay here. Don't buy their vouchers, and book through Trip Advisor or Booking. You'll get a better deal.

I bought vouchers months before my stay, and they didn't accept them because their "free upgrade" conveniently made the vouchers unusable. This is the biggest reason for the 2 star rating. Their response was to literally print out the fine print on the vouchers and read it to me. Not very professional. Don't order their old fashioned.

They also put a cherry in it for some reason? Then the barman who served us actually embarrassed us by chasing us down as we were leaving saying we need to pay even though I signed the cheque when I ordered. Request a room upstairs. On the ground floor you will hear everyone above you, next to you, and outside your door.

We had room 1. Sounds great - right?

Stratosfare Restaurant and Bar Rotorua

It was right next to reception, so we heard people outside at all hours, and couldn't open our window without people seeing directly into our room. Do get their breakfast. It's actually quite good. The building itself is really cool, and has a neat story. We would definitely be back if it wasn't for the gaffe with the vouchers - however nothing irritates me more than the old bait and switch.
